The election of Donald J. Trump to the White House was a political 180 from the previous administration. With that, there was going to be an obvious backlash. As President Trump continued to dismantle Barack Obama's legacy piece by piece, protest groups began to spring up around the country. Today, a political maelstrom has engulfed the nation and the American citizens are taking sides; those with Trump and those who oppose him. Political debate has taken a back seat as accusations meant to slander one another have taken control of the conversation. People are scared to discuss their viewpoints with the fear of being labeled as something they are not. As a result, many political conversations end with name-calling and labeling rather than substance and an enhanced perspective on the situation at hand. Where do we go from here? Simply put, it starts from the bottom, not the top. Government officials have not proven their ability to work together on a consistent basis, and spend more time worrying about being re-elected, than representing the constituents that voted them into office in the first place. Therefore, we must go below the surface, to the local populations, to the people in your hometown communities. Only there can we change the course and move forward as a single unified country, regardless of whom the President of the United States is.
