The next thing I knew, I was writing often as a way to unwind from the day. \"Maybe I could put enough of these poems together for a book,\" I thought. Well, low and behold, I did just that! Some of these poems were written for specific occasions, but again, most are just for fun. Some reflect people and experiences I have had in the past. Others just reflect how I have felt about life. Whatever these poems mean to you, please keep in mind that they are just for fun. And yes, I did write them using the name Smilin' Fred. I first met Smilin' Fred years ago. His real name is Derf Nilms, but he likes Smilin' Fred, which is Derf Nilms spelled backwards. I think it was during an identity crisis I was experiencing. Anyway, like the reason behind the poems, Smilin' Fred emerged out of a need just to have fun. Are you beginning to see a common thread? I do; I enjoy having fun.
