Zahra's algebra midterm is in one month, but more importantly, the Winter Formal is only two weeks away. The Pakistani-American teenager's personal hardships fitting into Golden Mountain High School are punctuated by recurring visions of herself on a deserted plain, confronted by a fire spirit who speaks to her in a language she doesn¿t understand.
