Blue Poles

In his fourth book of poems, Daniel Morris continues to explore the relations between the verbal and the visual, but with intriguing twists. In the title poem, Morris meditates on the relationships between his evolving poetics and a late painting by Jackson Pollock that critics have identified as marking the end to the artist's classic period of action painting. I mumbled how my own poetics shifted after middle age from Olson breath/ To clumsy imitation of Frostian blank verse. I knew my rude/Iambics were my blue poles." Morris looks backwards to Frost and Pollock, but in Blue Poles he also looks forward to a new poetic model by combining text with photography"--
