Emotional Feelings is the third and final book of poetry by Ariel Samuel Ackrum. This is a book that, like its subject, has no foundation in value-only the tautological 'foundation' of itself. This is a basic book, that is, a book with nothing to relate to outside of itself-which can only cry out "Because " in the night to the question "Why?" The emotions herein are those whose expressivity is limited to the mere fact of their being felt-history has been abandoned to a perpetual infancy. And not only that, in the age of the social capital of the smile, it is feeling itself that makes people emotional-it is the fact of emotivity that makes people upset. The major blow dealt to human flourishing by the impossibility of the Christian ideal has merely changed faces-the expressive society has no more understanding or appreciation of the gravity of suffering than any other society.
