Summer Evening: A Novelette

Summer Cooper's life is monotonous and uneventful. She loved it that way these days. Summer is a former superhero of sorts, a street vigilante with a unique special ability. While some heroes enjoyed showcasing theirs, Summer was frightened of what her powers did. Because of that, she chose a regular civilian life, hanging up the hero life forever. Night after night, Summer delivered meals to customers as a simple, quiet part-time courier for a popular mobile app. While delivering her first order of the late evening, an intense police car chase abruptly stops in front of her, leaving a massive car explosion on the streets of Northwest DC. As the flames grow, she finds herself surrounded by corrupt and racist cops. Frightened for her sanity and life, Summer struggles with being arrested, killed, or killing the cops. Though all were bad, Summer's greatest fear, that in each situation, she would have to entertain what she dreaded most: Her super powers
