The Beechwood Airship Interviews

Whilst a student at Norwich Arts School, Dan Richards set his heart on building a large airship out of beechwood, to hang in the student bar. It proved to be a difficult ambition, even at an art school, but Dan was convinced there was something of worth in his endeavour, convinced that craftsmanship was still an essential skill. Far from being a white elephant, the airship became the start of an incredible journey. Dan went out in search of people who might know something about the creative process, embarking on a trip that would take him from the artist Bill Drummond to writer Robert Macfarlane, with stops along the way including the Manic Street Preachers, painter Jenny Saville, Dame Judy Dench, Stanley Donwood and comedian Stuart Lee, among many others.
