There have been many attempts to explain the divergences of economic change and economic systems between countries but none has been wholly successful. This book attempts to explain the problem through a new approach which is termed 'networks of institutions'. This approach describes the dynamic connections and social interactions between institutions over time. Employing network game theory, this book argues that it is the various strengths of these networks of institutions which shape the trajectories of economic change in different countries. The objectives of this book are fourfold: first, to model the emergence of institutions under connected social interactions; second, to present a model of networks of institutions that illustrates how the institutional system works via the 'tags of institutions'; third, to offer a conception theory to institutional change; forth, to provide an empirical study on national systems of policies. This book represents a significant contribution to the literature which will be essential reading for those interested in institutional economics, network theory, social structures and economic policy.
