Rex wanders off into the bush and after losing direction, rests under a tree, where he noticed the impression of a kindly face of an Aboriginal elder impregnated on the tree-trunk. He falls asleep under the tree he calls Gran Yan, and the bush comes to life, with the ancient tree narrating adventures of a bygone era where Indigenous families teach their children about bush magic and survival in the wild. Book one focuses on teaching their children to respect tribal lore and respect nature. They also learn some secrets from the past, mythology that is known as the Dreamtime and to respect fire and waterways, and to obey instructions.
