The Altar Call: An Intercessor'S Guide To Reaching People

The altar was where one met God in truth, brought one's need as an offering, fully let the burden go, and then received God's will, even if the will of God turned out to be different from what one wanted. The altar call was the great culmination of many Christian worship services. Songs, sermons, and the flow of service were prayerfully curated to reach people by the Holy Spirit. At the sanctuary altar, trained altar workers learned the needs and burdens of many and led them Christ through prayer and biblical exhortation. Physical altars are not the only place to meet the Lord. The spiritual call and response options are growing, and altar workers are free to be flexible in reaching people inside the sanctuary and outside in the world. Let us be prepared to serve in the sanctuary, and in the world, whenever anyone seeking God wants to "build an altar."
