This is part four of a series of booklets about the history of Hatfield in Hertfordshire. Part 4 is the history of Newate Street. The estate owner has been the dominant factor in this area for six hundred years, so this brief history is largely the story of the men and women who have owned or tenanted the estates of Ponsbourne and Tolmers. When this series of booklets was published 50 years ago, it was rightly regarded as an exceptionally authoritative and informative work.
