A Legacy Of Ghosts

Lydia Perrault, octogenarian and spinster, resides with family on their farm outside of Regina. In the fall of 2019, she takes a phone call from her great-niece, Janey, who lives in Vancouver. Janey's friend, Rennie, believes that Lydia can explain her grandfather's connection to Errol Flynn. Long buried memories of the tragedy that happened in The Sylvia Hotel after Lydia's 1959 encounter with Mr. Flynn startle her into an awareness of the passage of time. She doesn't believe she can help Rennie, but a visit to Vancouver gives her the excuse to explain her legacy to Janey. Lydia, with her brother, Mick, returns to The Sylvia to meet Janey and Rennie, and although she doesn't admit it, to confront the ghosts of her past. When Rennie is delayed, Lydia tells Janey a story that begins in Regina in 1927 with a death, a cover-up, and a decision. This decision culminates in the 1959 tragedy in The Sylvia, and the burden of Lydia's legacy. Afterward, Lydia's discovery of her misbeliefs of that tragic evening compels her to steer a new course for the remainder of her life.
