British gunrunning during the American Civil War involved fast ships and brave men. Like the 17th C. pirates before them they operated from the safety of Nassau. In response the island both U.S and Confederate espionage engulfed the island. The child hood intimates, Amelia and Emmitt were two such spies, but serving on opposite sides of the war. In the restrained atmosphere of a British colony their friendship blossomed into love.
