An astronaut has been cast into space. There is no hope for rescue because she is getting too far out. The remaining astronauts are surprised to see a man in tee shirt and jeans clinging to the scaffold-like construction of a small spacecraft under construction; simply a rocket engine and metal framework. This story uses only what is available today, or will be developed from what we have now.In this story there are no fantasies - no death rays, superheroes, or machines defying the laws of physics.Some say we cannot go to Mars using the systems we have.We can - and we shall - only the will is needed.The robots have been developing the spacecraft 'Phoenix' a lot faster than the humans expected; this includes re-entry systems.Dramatic happenings on Earth mean the program must be accelerated, and explicit details of the launch are given.The design of the Phoenix show that it is a crucifix shape with a rocket in the middle. The advantage of this is that the cross rotates around the rocket; giving gravity at both ends.The journey to Mars should be boring - but it is not.
