In Meelly Finds a Family, Meelly is introduced not into a typical family, but into a home where a family has a sick daughter. In the book he learns what cancer is and what affect that it has on a young person and his or her family. He goes though everything with his new family and gets a wealth of knowledge on how to deal with and understand the different terms used in a hospital-which is all new to him, because he is not human. Meelly sometimes cannot understand what is going on, but that's what makes his new life with his sister so special; they are learning it together. Just to be there for a human is something exciting for Meelly, and he is so thankful that the kind lady picked him from the toy store.
