Regimen Sanitatis Salernitanum: Lilium Medicinae

The Regimen Sanitatus Salernitanum is a strange work originally delivered in the form of poetry in the 12th century. First translated into English in 1608, it takes the form of a combination dietary guide and medicinal work. Applauding the benefits of sage and wine and warning against the consumption of deer meat when ill, the regimen additionally provides an early look at sanitation; the washing of food and hands and avoiding places blighted by human waste. Such works would later inform plague treatments and the work of Nostradamus.
