Here I Stand: the Monk Who Turned Religion Upside Down is a full-length stage musical depicting many historical events of the 16th century during Martin Luther's life, including: his lightning-storm moment and commitment to monastic life; his tormented mental state; his disappointment with the corruption in Rome; his opposition to the sale of indulgences; his awakening to God's grace; his famous posting of the Ninety-Five Theses; his defiant burning of the Pope's Papal Bull; his courageous stand at the Diet of Worms; his "kidnapping" and translation of the Bible into German; his opposition to the peasant uprising; and his assistance to escaping monks and nuns--one of whom was Katharina von Bora, who became his faithful wife and mother of six. The story, with its thirty songs, is sprinkled with fictional characters, humor, and drama. About the author: John Buckley Sleadd, musician-composer, retired teacher-pastor, began writing full-length musicals in 2016 with "The Prodigals: Faith Can Lead You Home." In 2017 he wrote "Here I Stand." In 2019 he rearranged many of the tracks and produced an album of sixteen songs from "Here I Stand." He is now writing his third full-length musical (2019). He and his wife Arden founded Clarion Theatre Company to produce family-friendly, faith-building theatre works "to make 'em laugh, make 'em cry, send them home happy and humming."
