Jon Obermeyer suffered an ischemic stroke in his sleep in October, 2015 and was not seen in an emergency room for 11 hours. Fortunately, only his left-side motor skills were affected. After a three-night stay at UCSF hospital and recuperating at the houses of friends, Jon learned to walk without a cane and taught himself to bathe, dress and type on a keyboard. Three months after the stroke, a debilitating depression led to suicidal thoughts and put him on the brink of homelessness. Friends and family took him in. A therapist encouraged him to write about his experiences, which helped jump-start a new phase as an author.
