When her father's ill health leads to a family move from town to country, Moira and her dog Ripper become acquainted with next door neighbour Cathal the wizard. Cathal introduces them to Peri a mulberry tree that contains secret etchings and Theo a two headed bird who lives in Peri. Theo takes Moira and Ripper on magical adventure to meet his family in the mystical land of Socotra in the Arabian Sea.
