Chicago, summer of 1945. Jack Broderick has just returned from the New Mexico desert where he was "treated" to an up close demonstration of a United States nuclear test. The men who left him for dead in that nuclear test site were tired of keeping a loose cannon like Jack in their organization. Sure, violence is an essential part of a crime syndicate, but in the supply that Jack provided, business had been suffering. So, the syndicate decided to retire Jack with a bang. Most people would just crawl into a hole and die, but not Jack. After surviving the blast and escaping a military hospital, Jack heads back to Chicago a dying man. Fueled by his legendary anger and talent for violence, Jack has sworn to hunt down those involved and seek his revenge. As he scours the seedy streets of Chicago, Jack must confront the people and events from his past, trying desperately to come to terms with a life of crime and violence. Mona, Jack's steamy love interest and world class dame, could care less whether he lives or dies. Nicky, Jack's double crossing best friend and partner in crime, has become wealthy and well placed in "The Organization" since Jack's "accident". And Vincent, Mona's ex-fiancee and the first man that Jack ever killed, haunts Jack's memories and actions in the last months of his life.
