Love Relationship (Vol. 1): You Are Fearfully And Wonderfully Made; Immoral Relationships; Singleness; The Consequences Of The Abuse And Perversio

Growing up as young people, Theresa and I were introduced to what was at that time called "Boy/Girl Relationship." It was basically a series of sex education talks to guide young people against sexual immorality. Such talks were usually given at Vacation Youth Camps. I remember very well, the Boy/Girl Relationship talk given at the Ghana Youth for Christ National Camp held at Koforidua Secondary Technical School (my Alma Mater) in 1985 by the late former National Director of Ghana Youth For Christ (Rev. Joseph Aryee). He began the series with all age groups at the Camp present. It was an evening talk series. After about 30 minutes into the first talk, when he had finished talking about the similarities and differences between boys and girls, he asked that all the campers who were below age 10, should go to bed. Similarly, on the second day, after about another 30 minutes, he asked campers below age 13 also to go to bed. By that he made sure that specified age groups received the appropriate and required information. When I was appointed and commissioned to pioneer the ministry of Ghana Youth For Christ in the Volta Region in 1989, I realised that Love Relationship Talks, also known as "Family Life Education Talks," was a very powerful tool for reaching out to the youth. Consequently, I developed and used Love Relationship Talks under the Banner Title: "Pre-Marriage Seminars" for the ten years (1989 to 1999) Theresa and I ministered to the Youth in the Volta Region. True to my expectations, the once a quarter seminars were well attended by the youth from all the churches and identifiable groups in the Ho Municipality, and from all walks of life. Almost all participants in those seminars are today successfully married and they keep testifying that the reasons for the successes they are experiencing in their marriages are the lessons they learnt from those seminars. We continue to give those talks to young people in our local congregation and other congregations, whenever we are invited to do so. All those who we are privileged to take through pre-marital counselling have also benefited from those talks. Love Relationship therefore, is a compilation of the series of talks and lessons that were taught at those Seminars from 1990 to 1999. Indeed, the compilation and writing of this book began in 1999 and it has taken us almost 20 years to complete it. It has taken us such a long time because we wanted it to come out as a very good, well written and "matured" book. Presented in three volumes, it covers topics like "You are Fearfully and Wonderfully Made, "Immoral Relationships, "Singleness, "The Consequences of the Abuse and Perversion of Sex" in Volume 1, "Healthy Relationships, "The 6+1 Tests for Love, "Identifying and Choosing a Life Partner, and "Making and Accepting Marriage Proposals" in Volume 2 and "Courtship (Going Steady), "The Marriage (Wedding) Ceremonies, "The Consummation of the Marriage" in Volume 3. Cast in a Ghanaian cultural setting and from an Evangelical Christian and Biblical background, we recommend Love Relationship to every young person, and every parent who has growing young people in his or her quivers. It (they) will guide you or your wards to order your (their) relationship with the opposite sex and prepare you (them) for a successful marriage.
