Originally from the 17th century, it is a fairly detailed tract of alchemy, including both clear statements and allegories, at two points in the form of dialogue. By understanding the nature of the four elements, the three subsequent substances (salt, sulfur, and mercury) and the dichotomy of male and female the alchemist is supposed to be able to accomplish various chemical feats.
