The primary question of this research thesis, whether the Ka?ba in Mecca is physically orientated toward Jerusalem, appears never to have been studied before.The secondary question is, if later accounts are correct, why were paintings of Abraham, Jesus, and Mary found in the Ka?ba at the time of its cleansing from idols by Mu?ammad in 630 C.E.? The primary hypothesis is based on the location of the ?a?im, a low semi-circular wall on the north-west side of the current structure of the Ka'ba, which is the demarcation of the original Abrahamic structure and the resting place of Isma?il and his mother Hajar. Relating back to the earlier structure of the Ka?ba in 7th century Mecca and before, the question that arises from this observation is whether there is any historical evidence for the ?a?im being part of the earlier framework.Whether the Ka?ba is a directional building has several key concepts that need to
